Women are the greatest creatures to walk the Earth. We have endured so much pain, seen so much change, and carried so much weight. If you think about it, no person would be on the planet today if it were not for women.
However, more and more women are losing confidence and motivation in themselves. It always blows my mind that the people who can typically handle the biggest burdens are always the hardest on themselves. We carry so much power and forget to remind ourselves of it daily. So here are 16 ways to feel like a more empowered woman!
Self-Care is most important for everyone, no matter their gender. You always have to take care of yourself first in order to achieve many great things in life. Self-care can mean many things depending on the person.
Self-care can mean having a glass of wine, taking a hot bath, treating yourself to a movie, going to yoga, or even just trying out a new body scrub. Do something that soothes your heart and soul and makes you feel good.
Make it Trackable
To make self-care even more empowering, make it visibly trackable so you can see that the change is happening. For example, mark on your calendar every time you went to yoga, keep the ticket stubs from the movie, save corks from the wine bottles you finished. Keep these things somewhere to always remind yourself that you need to love on you sometimes and do it often.
A daily mantra can be so influential in empowering you every day and preparing you for whatever you may face.
When I sometimes feel at my lowest, I like to stand in front of the mirror and say “I am the Batman.” Does it make any sense? No. Does it make me feel better? Yes.
I feel important and empowered to face any challenge that may come my way. Another one of my favorite mantras is by Kaci Diane “I love the person I’ve become because I fought to become her.” It’s little things that pick you up and send you off to kick ass. Here is a great daily mantra for women that I found that you may want to try:
“You were born with potential, You were born with goodness and trust, You were born with ideals and dreams, You were born with greatness, You were born with wings, You were not meant for crawling so don’t, You have wings, Learn to use them and fly.” – Rumi (via Teri)
Buy Power Pieces
Power pieces are articles of clothing that make you feel superior. You all know what I’m talking about. It’s that article of clothing that you put on and just think
“YASSSSSS honey! We gonna slay today!” The image above is one of my power pieces that I feel like I can just dominate in.
If you can’t do this for yourself, then why do you expect someone else to? I personally love the fact that I can make myself feel pleasure because I am in control of it.
Flirt with Yourself
Tell yourself you look beautiful. We are so hypercritical of every aspect of our bodies that we hardly ever compliment ourselves. Even if it has to be small steps like “you did a great job brushing your teeth today” then that’s what you need to do! We must empower ourselves.
Listen to a Powerful Song
Now all the powerful songs I can think of are typically written by powerful women such as Beyoncé, Rhianna, or Nicki Minaj. These women say what they want and don’t care what anyone has to say. My personal empowerment pump up is “Needed Me” by Rhianna. That gets me going and ready to kick some ass for anyone that crosses me.
Read about Powerful Women
I love to read about powerful women that just made it in life or powerful women that write amazing things such as Brene Brown, Sheryl Sandberg, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, etc. I could go on and on. But that’s exactly what we need to be doing for each other as women. Continue to empower each other because doing so fosters empowerment for all!
Stand by Your Decisions
When you make a major decision whether that be at work or in personal decisions, don’t shut yourself down. That is something else that we tend to do. We don’t listen to ourselves or discredit our ideas.
In the end, someone else ends up making the decisions for us. Support yourself and stand by the decisions you make because more likely than not, they’re great.
Take Initiative at Work
Helping others or giving back is always a way I feel empowered because it just feels like you’re contributing back to the Earth. We are all supposed to help each other, and through doing so, we learn more about ourselves. So being there for someone else can empower you as well!
Create Something Challenging
This could be building a bookshelf out of pallets, putting together a complicated desk, or like me, building and wood burning a bench. I wanted to make a bench for two of my closest friend’s wedding, and by golly I did it! I never felt so proud and so empowered.
Join a Women’s Group
Join a group that is specifically for women. This could be a woman’s only gym, book club, or anything else. I love surrounding myself with different types of women and just being together.
Start Your Own Group
Better yet, start your own group or organization! Create something that you would be passionate about running and surround yourself with people that feel the same or can contribute. The perfect example of this would be Jasmine starting Miss Millennia Magazine.
It’s pretty damn successful, and she has surrounded herself with people that believe in her vision. I’m pretty sure Jasmine feel pretty damn empowered from her accomplishments.
Initiate New Things in Bed
Tackle a Fear/ Stepping out of Comfort Zone
Write down a list of your fears and try to tackle them one by one. Conquer what you fear so that you may be in control. If you can’t conquer them, then at least own up to them. Acknowledging my greatest fears is fantastic because I love knowing myself inside and out.
I hope that these tips will be able to help you feel like a more empowered woman. But just know that to every woman out there, I love you. I may not know, may not ever meet you but know that from one woman to another, you are loved and supported! Start slaying ladies!
