I have come to notice that the difference between people who get what they want in life and those who do not is their perspective. Those who meet their goals are the ones who are always speaking about them with excitement. Those who always seem to get the short end of the stick are the ones complaining about how things never go their way. How interesting would it be to say that if we all showed more gratitude when it comes to the things we do have, we would receive more things that we wanted?
Now if this sounds absurd just hear me out. Have you ever just sat and thought about your life in its entirety, and just counted one by one all the things that make you happy? If you ever have, you know that the feeling is just amazing. When you think of how privileged you are, especially compared to many others who would not even have the capabilities to read this article, you should show some gratitude.With this being said, when you are feeling good, it puts you in the best mindset to do more positive things. For example, if you are grateful for a close friend, you may want to tell them how grateful you are for them or do something nice for them. This will not only make them feel good, it will make you feel awesome, and they will continue to show you that love and support you were grateful for to begin with. Showing gratitude has a way of coming back to you in a roundabout way.
Why Wouldn’t This Work?
The problem with many people is they dwell all too often in the negative zone. They are complaining about how they do not have the car they want or enough money, or they do not get to go where they want. Now when you make statements like this how does it usually make you feel? I know for myself I feel pretty bad and ultimately hopeless. When you make a statement like “I am too fat,” you are saying it as a matter of fact, as if it cannot be changed. And what do we usually do about it? Go snack on ice cream to make ourselves feel better. Why not instead find the parts of your body you are happy with and be grateful for them? If there are other parts about your body you are not content with, make a plan on how you are going to make it better. Do not just settle for unhappiness.
How To Show Gratitude
Now there are many ways to go about showing gratitude. Being a writer, the first thing I always want to do is write a letter to those I am grateful for. Then I write a journal entry for myself, just speaking about all the things I have to be grateful for. This is not only a good way to show the ones you care about that you do appreciate them, because I guarantee you that whoever the person may be, they do not hear it enough; It can also be very therapeutic for yourself to show someone that you do appreciate the things they have done for you. So get started by writing your letter to those around you and just let them know they are appreciated.
How Does This Benefit Me?
Being grateful is great because it helps you feel good. And feeling good is what life is all about. This is especially helpful when it comes to you dealing with a hardship. I am currently in the midst of dealing with my boyfriend who is in the army and is being deployed to Afghanistan. And although it hurts to say goodbye to him for an entire year, I have focused my energies on showing gratitude to those friends and family members around me who have shown me any support during this difficult time. Needless to say, I have a lot of letters to write. But it just feels so much better to show gratitude to others rather than to sulk in sadness on my own. Gratitude is amazingly powerful, and can get you through any hardship as long as you are genuine with this energy.
We all have our obstacles, bad days, and good ones. But regardless of anyone’s circumstances, we all have something to be grateful for. If we did not we would not get out of bed in the morning. So today take some time out to really think about how lucky you really are for your family, home, job, boyfriend or girlfriend. It can be as simple as being grateful for having a full head of hair. We are all blessed with something in this life, and one way to receive more of the things you want is by showing gratitude for the things you already have.
