Go to Bed at the Same Time Each Night
By going to bed at the same time each night, you train your body to fall asleep at roughly the same time. Getting your body back into a natural rhythm like this if it isn’t in one already will help immensely. Make sure you switch off TVs and things like that at least an hour before you plan on sleeping too. It’ll help you to fall asleep! Consider reading a book before you fall asleep to help you relax. Don’t do anything that stimulates you too much. Perhaps try a sleep tea like Chamomile to help you drop off too.
Get Up at the Same Time Each Morning
By getting up at the same time each morning, you’re making sure your natural rhythm is in sync every day. You’re also getting into good habits. Once you’re in the habit of getting up at a certain time, everything will become so much easier. You may not even need an alarm after doing it for a while!
Don’t Sleep in on Weekends
It can be tempting to sleep in on weekends or days when you haven’t got work. Don’t do it! This will mess up the pattern you’ve got yourself into. If you do need to sleep in, then it could point to you being sleep deprived the rest of the time. If you’re getting plenty of sleep, you shouldn’t feel the need to sleep in. Cold showers can really help to jolt you awake and get you out of that sleepwalking stage we all seem to be in in the morning. Meditation isn’t hippy mumbo jumbo. You’ll read a ton of things about meditation, including that it can help you to answer difficult questions in your life. Many people find this to be true after they’ve practiced it for a while! It can also help you to be more creative, and de-stress you. Silencing thoughts and clearing the mind has many benefits. 5-10 minutes a day is all you need. Your thoughts will likely interrupt you the first few times you do it, but you’ll soon get the hang of it. The more you do it, the more you can expect to benefit!
Start Your Day Doing Something You Enjoy
Instead of starting the day with work to set the tone, start the day by doing something you really enjoy. This should help you to start the day in a good mood. Although writing, reading, or whatever else you enjoy may not pay the bills, it pays off when you find yourself in a great mood. If you get up just a bit earlier each day, you’ll have more tme to do things you enjoy.
Have a Good Breakfast
A good breakfast will set you up for the day. A nice bowl of porridge oats can help you to curb cravings later on in the day and fuel you for hours on end. Avoid processed cereals and things that don’t fill you up. Healthy carb and protein sources are the best choice for a good breakfast.
