What Makes A Good Real Estate Agent? Here's The Scoop.

There are many real estate agents out there in the world, but some are better at their job than others. What makes a good real estate agent? There are a number of traits and characteristics that are beneficial to this job.

When you evaluate potential real estate agents it’s important to know if you’re going to get a good one. If they have the following traits, you’re on the right track!

Honesty

Honesty is one of the most important traits that a real estate agent can have.

A dishonest and immoral agent might make a few sales at first. But they ultimately won’t get very far. Homebuyers and sellers want to work with someone they can trust.

Real estate agents must be upfront and transparent in their dealings. If they are honest, even if the truth isn’t always easy to hear, you’ll appreciate that you can trust them.

Negotiation Skills

A successful real estate agent has strong negotiation skills. When the offers are flying back and forth on a house, they should be able to navigate the negotiations with confidence.

If an agent negotiates effectively, it will help a buyer to achieve the best possible price and terms for the home purchase. In fact, with a skilled negotiator on your side, you have the possibility of saving up to 3-5% of the sales price! This can make a huge difference.

Local Knowledge

It is also important for a real estate agent to have knowledge of the local area. Perhaps they have lived in the area before, purchased property, or have several years of experience working in this location.

This will help the agent understand the various neighborhoods and home values over time. If the real estate agent is new in town and has never sold a home in that area, they are at a disadvantage.

Work Ethic

Another important trait of a successful real estate agent is a hard-working attitude.

It takes a lot of time and effort to successfully sell a home or find a home for a buyer. A good real estate agent will put the effort into working on the sale of each home. This includes treating each client with plenty of attention.

For the home buyer or seller, the purchase is a huge life decision that makes an enormous impact on their future, which is why the real estate agent should treat it accordingly.

Passion

A good real estate agent is still just as excited about the job as if it was the first day.

They need a passion for finding people the right home and making clients happy.  This shines through in the way of how the real estate agent conducts business.

If an agent has gotten jaded or worn out, it will show in their performance and treatment of clients. You definitely don’t want that!

Knowledge of the Purchase Process

Of course, another important thing that a real estate agent must possess is a thorough understanding of the purchase process. The agent must know every little detail of buying and selling homes so they can guide clients through it.

This includes understanding all of the paperwork, real estate software, and legal red tape that comes with buying a home. The real estate agent’s clients will not have any experience with the process. They will be looking up to the real estate agent to help guide them through it.

These are just a few of the skills and qualities that a successful real estate agent needs. What else do you look for when selecting an agent to work with? Let us know in the comments!
