By now, I think you all, my dear readers, are aware that I am somewhat of a product junkie. Ever since I made the huge decision of going natural almost 2 years ago, I have wanted to find the perfect products for my hair needs. But IMG_0015going natural, I have found, is a hell of a lot harder to do than I have ever thought that it would be. But when you go natural, after 21 years of relaxing and flat ironing my hair, everything is brand new. To put it into perspective, I completely shaved my shoulder length hair off a week after my 21st birthday. The first few months were pretty hard because I had never had such short hair before. But it was also exciting because I had no clue what my hair would look like in a few months. Would it be ultra curly and dry? Or would it be more of a kinky texture but also sort of oily? Only time would tell.

The picture to the right was about 4 months after I cut my hair off. Even after that time, I still had no clue what my hair would look like or anything so I was still pretty lost. Hell, 2 years down the road and I am still looking for hints and tips on Pinterest and watching Youtube videos on wash ‘n’ gos! I guess your hair is just like school, you never really stop learning!

My Latest Issue…

With all of the things that I have learned about my hair, I still run into a brick wall of not knowing what to do every once in a while. Normally, I have somewhat dry hair so I like to treat it with a hot oil treatment. A hot oil treatment is basically warmed coconut oil and olive oil sitting in my hair for a few hours with a shower cap on. After I wash all of the oil and everything out and style it, my hair is like a dream for about 3 or 4 days. But after that, my hair has started to do something a bit odd. Before, my hair would shrivel up and pretty much ask for a deep conditioning. But now, it has started to get very oily.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, Millennials. You just sat under a shower cap with oil in your hair for hours and now you’re confused as to why your hair is oily? That is what I would think too, except I have been doing hot oil treatments since I’ve cut my hair 2 years ago. This is a new development for me and I was pretty much at a standstill as to what to do. Luckily enough for me, I have this great opportunity to try out awesome products for a lot of cool companies. The latest have come at a great time and I could not be happier with it. It is called Follicleanse and it is definitely a life saver.

What Is Follicleanse?IMG_1236

Follicleanse is a great shampoo and conditioner that is great for oily hair, but that is not all it does. It also takes care of dandruff and clarifies your hair. A lot of people do not know what clarifying your hair means. (I honestly did not know either and had to do a bit of research so don’t feel bad if you don’t know!) Basically, clarifying means to deep clean (gently) all of the products that have built up on your scalp from oils, moisturizers, and gels. This actually makes a lot of sense because I have had this problem before with washing my hair and I could still see and feel gel on my scalp and I did not know what to do to make it go away so I just shampooed my hair until it did, which was a huge pain in the butt to do.

Why I Am In LheartVE With Follicleanse!

Follicleanse is nothing like I have ever used before. Normally, naturals say that you should only shampoo your hair maybe once a month or so because it can strip your hair from its natural oils. I completely believe that because once I shampoo my hair more than twice a month, my hair is as dry as a Brill-O pad and no amount of hot oil treatments or deep conditioners can really help. So, when I do decide it is time to shampoo my hair again, I want to make sure that it counts. With Follicleanse, I can honestly feel my hair getting healthier by the minute.

All parents have a favorite child and mine is definitely Folllicleanse’s shampoo. Not only does it smell great, it had a lot of slip so I could actually detangle my hair with it! There are not a lot of shampoos that does this (I have never heard of once personally). So, suffice it to say, I am pretty much obsessed with this product!

Becoming a Naturalista is definitely one of the best things that I have done in my lifetime (so far!). Embracing my curls is a winding road of fun, stress, knowledge and success! And I do feel a sense of community to any woman–or man for that matter–that has natural hair. I always stop and have a conversation about my hair and theirs, asking what products that we love and hate, what works for me and what works for them, and walking away with new recommendations and sometimes a new friend! Now I know what I will be recommending next!
