If you’re insecure about your teeth, there’s no reason to let it hold you back. Because regardless of how your teeth currently look, dentistry really can work miracles. Here are a few of the dental issues you might be facing, and how they can be improved.
For more serious issues with crookedness, braces are the way to go. You may first need to have a couple of teeth removed if overcrowding is an issue, and then fixed braces will help to pull the teeth into their correct position. You may need just top or bottom braces, but many people need both. You may need braces for anywhere between six months to two years, but the quicker you get them done the quicker they will be off so it’s worth taking the plunge and going for it. It might seem like a long time, but it’s so worth it to have stunning straight teeth for the rest of your life.
After your braces are off, you will need to wear a retainer to keep them in position. This could either be in the form of a clear cover worn over your teeth at night, or a ‘fixed retainer’. This is a strip of metal that’s glued to the back of your teeth and stays there permanently to stop teeth from shifting. You can’t see it, and just like braces you quickly get used to how it feels in your mouth.

Minor Crookedness or Overlapping
Less severe crookedness can be treated with “invisible braces,” clear retainer-like trays that are worn over the teeth for most of the day (unless you’re eating or brushing your teeth). The trays will gradually pull your teeth into the correct position over a number of months, and unlike traditional metal braces, it’s not obvious that you have them in. Not everyone is a candidate for these, but for those who are they’re a great option.
Another way that minor crookedness or overlapping of the front teeth can be fixed is with veneers. The natural tooth is shaved down to a “peg” and the new, specially crafted veneer is glued on top. Veneers give a stunning “Hollywood smile” appearance. When you see a celebrity with gorgeous straight white teeth, chances are this is what they’ve had done. Veneers can also be used to fix gaps between front teeth and deep staining/discoloration.
If you’re happy with your natural teeth but they just aren’t as sparkling and white as you’d like, teeth whitening is the best way to go. Whitening trays from the dentist will always be much more effective than anything you can buy over the counter, and so if you want to make a noticeable difference, go with a professional. Laser teeth whitening can also work very well, and dentists are able to get your teeth five to six shades lighter in just one hour.
