I love the holiday season. Not only because it is the time where you eat well and give gifts, but because it is a great time of year to reflect on all the ways you are blessed. We get so much negativity every day from the news, and it's enough to think that the world is becoming a more miserable place. But, we all have something to be thankful for and simply thinking about all the ways you are blessed is an excellent way to make you and them feel good. Thinking over the course of a year, I want to take a moment to show thanks to a few of those in my life who have had a tremendous impact on me this year. And also how American Greetings is making the world a better place with these simple words: Thank You.
My Sister Jannise
Jannise is my younger sister who is already so inspiring to me because she is one of the most creative people I know, but also because she had an incredible weight-loss journey over the last year and a half. Just take a look at her before and after images. I am so grateful for her just to see how much of an impact changing your eating habits can affect your life. Jannise has a blog debuting soon that talks about how she managed to lose all the weight and so quickly. Thanks, Jan for being such an inspiration and sharing your easy tips on weight loss.

My Boyfriend's Sister Lauran
We had another family member move to Texas this past year, my boyfriend's older sister Lauran. Lauran is one of the most interesting people I know and have had some cool travel and life experiences that always just blow me away. But Lauran has also had a direct impact on my life since she is my workout buddy in San Antonio. She holds me accountable and has helped me lose 15 pounds so far this year. I am so grateful to have someone who values health so highly to be my workout accountability buddy. Thanks Lauran for making me get off my butt and to the gym; rain or shine.
Darren Hardy-The Compound Effect
I know I've already talked so much about how much I love listening to audiobooks, but sometimes I come across a book that resonates with me long after I finish it. This year that book was The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. There were so many things he said in this book that I have thought or mentioned to someone else before and it was a little creepy. A few quotes to mention include:
- “You alone are responsible for what you do, don’t do, or how you respond to what’s done to you.”
- “You get in life what you create. Expectation drives the creative process. What do you expect? You expect whatever it is you're thinking about. Your thought process, the conversation in your head, is at the base of the results you create in life.”
- “Losing is a habit. So is winning. Now let’s work on permanently instilling winning habits into your life.”
- “you will get in life what you accept and expect you are worthy of.”
I read many books a year, and this has to be one of the top 3 I've read all year, mostly because he talks a lot about positivity and hard work that are two things you have to have if you want to be successful in your business. Thanks Darren for writing such an inspiring and eye-opening read.
My boyfriend Chris
I think I owe it to this man to thank him for every year that he supports me in my career, dreams, and my whole life. I have never had such a great cheerleader in my corner in the best times and in the bad times. What I am thankful for most, is how much he makes me laugh! Laughter is an excellent remedy to feeling blue, sick, and any other crummy feeling you may have. Thanks Chris for believing in me even when I sometimes have a hard time believing in myself.
The ThankList Campaign
If my list has got you thinking about all the things you have to be thankful for, share them on social, and you could help prevent hunger. Let me explain. American Greetings and The United Way Worldwide is partnering together on the ThankList campaign. For every #ThankList shared on social, they will be donating $1 to United Way Worldwide to go towards hunger prevention . All you have to do is post about who/what you are thankful for using the #ThankList, and they will donate $1 to the United Way!
I love the idea of American Greetings doing this because think about it…if we can get people saying thank you and multiply that by millions, this could mean an entire cultural movement. American Greetings is on a path to make the world a more thoughtful and caring place, and I can get with a message like that.
I know this is the season to be nice and appreciate your friends and family, but I want to point out that we have the whole year for that. Make a point to say thank you even after the 30-day challenge because it makes that person feel good as well as yourself. Life is much too short to take the people in your life for granted so take advantage of being able to say thank you while they are here and still making an impact in your life.
