Creating a success mindset just takes some simple mental adjustments. Instead of obsessing over everything you can’t change, focus on what you can change – your mindset. Focus on the opportunities, rather than the problems.
Your mindset is your state of mind that is fixed on obtaining a certain outcome. For example, if you have a success mindset, your mind’s focus and action is on success – whatever success means to you. By tweaking how you think, or how you act, will create a shift in mindset, which in turn will shift your beliefs and your attitude. As a result, you will attract abundance, success and wealth into your business or life. Just by changing your mindset. After all, your mindset is a set of beliefs or a way of thinking that determines your behaviour and mental attitude.
Have you ever noticed that most people live and work doing the right thing to have what they desire and only then will they be the person who deserves those very things? This can be associated with material success.
In our society, we are taught that we should have certain things like more money, more success, more degrees, a bigger house, a better car… and the story goes on. Then and only then can we be who we want to be. Crazy, right? We create this perpetual pattern of striving harder, doing the work, to have what we desire to only then think we are worthy of that very thing by being the person we envision ourselves to be.
Don’t worry, it’s a common belief most individuals think – ‘If I do what I need to do, I will get what I want to have, then I can be the person that I have always dreamed of being’.
Let me expand on this so that you get greater insight into this mindset focus and how it plays out.
Imagine you set a business goal – on securing more customers. Your focus would be that you do things, like go to networking events, liaise with other organisations that are aligned with your business or get involved with your community just to have and build the relationships that you desire. You believe that, once you have secured these relationships, they will make you successful.
Unconsciously, we all have these limiting beliefs that we are not aware of… ‘danger, danger’… For instance, you may think to yourself – ‘once I have 100 clients I will be successful and happy’. What would happen if you shifted your mindset? What about if you start by being happy? In other words, rather than waiting until you have the things you want to have in order to be who you want to be, why not be who you want to be right now?
Yes… that’s correct; act as if your goal has already being achieved! Sounds pretty simple, right? That’s because it is that simple. One simple mind shift will change everything in your paradigm and therefore you will create the change you desire.
If you want to change your mindset for success you have to be aware of your mindset, to change your behaviours and get a desired result. However, if you continue to operate with the belief that you have to act a certain way to have what you want, to then be the person that you want to be – this is a recipe for conflict.
Be the person who you would be if you already had achieved your goal. Then you will do what a successful person would do, which will allow you to have exactly what you want.

So how do you make this come to life? If these are unconscious, then where do you begin, or what do you do?
Visualise the person you would be as if you have already achieved your goal:
- What would you be doing differently?
- How would you behave?
- What would you be focused on?
- How would you be thinking?
- How would you be feeling?
- How would you be speaking?
- How would you treat yourself and others?
- What would your relationships be like?
- How would you look at your business?
- How would you look at your finances?
How this works is to be first the person you want to be. This could be as simple as one word:
Of course, this one word will have different meanings to every single one of us. If you pick ‘successful’ as your one word, what does that encompass? Write a list of words or pictures that comes to mind. Only then, once you have clarity on what you want to be, will you start acting from this state of being. It is a shift in mindset and it is very powerful and life-changing.
Take a moment to think about who you are being right now and how it compares to who you really want to be. We can all be whom we want to be by starting right now; it takes 21 consecutive days and effort. Why wait to be who you want to be?
Remember that who and how you are being right now has a profound impact on how you think, feel and act, which will have an impact on your results. What ever your personal definition to ‘success’ – start with you! Constantly check in with you to keep you on track:
- Who am I?
- What is important to me?
- What are my actions?
- What are the results?
Also, check if you are not on track to getting your results. You know you can ‘fake it until you make it’! Your mind can’t tell the difference between what is real and what is not real. If you want to manifest a success mindset, just be that very thing. A great analogy I like to use – imagine rolling out of bed and feeling very average, maybe a little bit down. Right in that very second – jump up and down or skip around your room. Then see how long you will feel down or miserable. It’s impossible for your mind to stay in that mindset if your physiology is telling your brain something else.
To have a success mindset is to be exactly what you want to be right now. You are a human being, not human doing. To be (being) is to be conscious (self-aware) about your beliefs and feelings. Which has an impact on how you behave, or what you are doing. To have your business outcome, financial result or long-lasting happiness.
