Unfortunately, having a lie-in isn’t quite as easy as it might sound. There are plenty of potential distractions and other pitfalls for you to avoid, if you are going to make the most of this relaxing time.
Don’t Let Anything Prey on Your Mind
One of the most annoying things, which can affect you in this situation, is having something preying on your mind and making you feel guilty or restless. Is there a pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen? Do you need to return a phone call to someone, or do you have unfinished jobs about the house to do? The best idea in this case is to make an effort to get everything up to date the day before you attempt your glorious lie-in. For this reason, it is often best to choose Sunday for the big day, as this means you can try and everything done on Saturday. This can also be a really good incentive for you to finish off any little jobs you need to do but have been putting off.
Don’t Let a Phone Call Spoil It
You really don’t want your peace and quiet to be disturbed by phone calls, do you? Taking the phone off the hook and switching off your mobile is one idea, but what if someone needs to contact you for a genuine emergency? A safer bet is to let your contacts know you are out of reach and, also, to use a call blocker to stop nuisance calls and sales pitches. In terms of your friends and relatives, sending out some light-hearted text messages about having a lie-in or updating your Facebook status should do the trick. The other types of call are even easier to stop, if you go about it the right way. Get Breakfast Sorted

This will make sure that you get your food, without you lifting a finger. Another option is to prepare something the night before, so that you only need to heat it up in the microwave or serve it. This will let you start the day off with a great start, without missing out on your breakfast.
Have a Book or Newspaper Handy
If you don’t often have time to read a book, this could be the perfect opportunity to do so. In order to make the most of this time in bed, you should make sure that you have a book you want to read handy. In fact, searching for the book and buying it can be a great deal of fun in the run-up to the day. You can picture yourself lounging in bed with the book in your hand, while you are in the shop buying it. Most of us probably prefer a light, undemanding read in this sort of situation. A good idea is to think about the sort of book you would take with you on holiday and choose a similar one for your big lie-in. If you prefer a newspaper or magazine, you might like to have a selection of them by the bed waiting for you.
Choose a Movie
Early morning TV isn’t always all that great. If you want to avoid the pain of watching something horrible or of having to constantly flick between channels, having a movie ready could be a smart move. Is there a film you’ve been wanting to watch recently but haven’t seen yet? This can be a lovely time to lie back with some snacks and get caught up in an exciting movie on screen. Even if you aren’t normally a huge movie fan, you might find that you enjoy it a lot more than usual as a part of your lie-in routine.
