Best Cheap Travel Destinations for Spring Break
Sometimes a cruise to the Caribbean or a flight to Mexico sounds like the kind of spring break you’d want to be about — but other times your bank account or grad plans get in the way. A triple digit budget or school stress can easily make staying local sound super appealing.
So where in the U.S. do spring breakers get away to? The team at trivago helped us put together this list of the most searched U.S. destinations in March with average hotel rates of less than $150 per night.
Here are some of the best budget destinations for spring.
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
Average hotel rate for March: $89/night
It doesn’t get that hot in the Smoky Mountains but that doesn’t stop spring breakers from taking advantage of the outdoor adventures this Tennessee mountain town has to offer. Home to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (the most visited national park in the U.S.), Pigeon Forge boasts badass whitewater rafting and hiking trails for days. Oh yeah, and it’s home to Dollywood, the amusement park of country music singer Dolly Parton. So there’s that.
Average hotel rate for March: $91/night
Being the “live show capital of the world” may be the main reason to visit Branson but there’s plenty more. Great golfing, tons of outdoor activities, and a few famous museums (such as the ship-shaped Titanic museum) are other big attractions for vacationers. If you want to spend your spring break on the water, Branson has that too. Table Rock Lake is the perfect place for fishing, boating or waterskiing.
Atlantic City, NJ
Average hotel rate for March: $112/night

As long as you don’t lose all your money at the tables, Atlantic City offers a fun and fast paced vacay for those in the Northeast. When heading to the big apple is out of the budget, AC is the next best thing. With clubs, casinos and hotel rooms with ocean views, students in the tri-state area take their luck to Atlantic City.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Average hotel rate for March: $130/night
A trip to this South Carolina beach town can go one of two ways. Some visitors prefer the mellow side of Myrtle Beach, taking advantage of the gorgeous golf courses and indulging in all the “seafood capital of South Carolina” has to serve. Others like to speed up their spring break trip and hop on a helicopter (as cheap as $20 per person) or go off-roading on one of Carolina Backwoods ATV trail tours.
San Antonio, Texas
Average hotel rate for March: $132/night

SxSW may attract a lot of visitors to Austin in March, but San Antonio is a sought after spring break destination as well. Home to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the charming River Walk, and free attractions ranging from the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area to the historic Alamo.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Average hotel rate for March: $139/night
Brilliantly boozy, it’s no surprise the Las Vegas strip is a staple for west coast co-eds. And there’s no need to stay in a fancy hotel to get a piece of the Sin City pie. Pool parties, restaurants and nightclubs give travelers a taste of luxury without paying full price for five star accommodations.

Midwesterners visit Indy for more than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Indiana’s capital is a cultural mecca, filled with historical buildings, landmarks and museums. Its long list of trails and state parks also makes it the perfect place for outdoorsy types to get some fresh air. If you’re looking for more “adult” things to do, Indy has some pretty awesome live music, a killer food scene, and a growing list of breweries quickly earning it a reputation as a beer lover’s city.
