For some people, it’s not enough to work through the 9-5 grind. For many of us, we demand a challenge! We want intellectual stimulation, and a path for progression. We want to travel. Most of all, we want to make a difference in the world. We want to help others, and come home from a hard-day’s work with a feeling of accomplishment. Unfortunately, not all jobs provide this sort of deep satisfaction. Many are dull, paper-pushing jobs that lead nowhere. If that sounds like you, it’s time for a change. A big one! Are you with me? Let’s take a look at some of the most rewarding careers out there.
Doctor or nurse – Working in the healthcare industry is a chance to help people on a daily basis. Every small action works to improve the life of somebody in trouble. If you’ve got your heart set on becoming a doctor, it’s a long road of training and medical college. For nurses, the training is a little shorter. However, the pressure and intensity of a hospital environment is no different! Yes, it’s challenging, but endlessly rewarding, and no two days are the same.
Therapist – Psychologists and therapists help some of the most troubled members of society. In many cases, they’ll treat the most vulnerable in prisons and health institutions. It’s a chance to help others put their issues in perspective. It’s a way to help them see the good in the world and change their ways for the better. Of course, you could take a more conventional route through counselling. You’ll help couples rekindle their love in marriage counselling or help young people avoid depression.
Teacher – There are few better ways to give back to the world than inspiring the next generation. Pursuing a career as a teacher is hard-work. You’ll face the tough challenge of keeping a class of unruly kids in order! But, all the difficulties are soon put in perspective when you watch them grow. You’ll help them learn new skills and discover their passions. You’ll shape their future and give them direction. It’s a wonderful career to follow.
Lawyer – Lawyers and solicitors help maintain a sense of justice and right in the world. A criminal defense attorney, for example, will help the most deprived corners of society. They’ll fight for justice and help change the lives of some of the least fortunate. Family lawyers will help couples make the difficult decisions about custody and divorce. Environmental lawyers help fight for nature, and reduce the deep cut of climate change. It’s a very emotional career, but incredibly rewarding.
Entrepreneur – CEOs often get a bad reputation as money-hungry power-grabbers. Of course, there are one or two out there! But, for the most part, entrepreneurs set out to make the world a better place. They’re looking to provide answers and create a smarter world. Many notably CEOs also give a lot of money to charity and good causes.
If you’re looking for a meaningful job, you needn’t settle for what you’re doing. Search your passions and discover how you can make a difference.
