It’s summertime, which means the air is hot and the nights are long. You should be indulging in as much time outside as you can. But there’s nothing wrong with taking a break from the great outdoors to enjoy a night watching a movie in your blissful air conditioned home. While going movies is super fun and definitely a must for some of the hot flicks this summer, it can be expensive to go all of the time. Here are some tips for having the perfect movie night at home in order to save some cash (plus be able to stay in your sweatpants!).
If you have Netflix, there are some movies available to watch instantly without waiting for them to come in the mail. It’s no additional charge if you already subscribe to Netflix. Great deal for an impromptu plan!
You can still rent a movie!
Blockbuster stores may be scarce these days, but don’t forget about your local library! You can still rent from a large selection of DVDs from your library, easy!
Make a snack
If popcorn isn’t on your usual grocery list, no worries. There are plenty of other great snacks that are movie-appropriate. Get creative with DIY nachos or a baked treat before you sit down for your movie. It’ll make the movie more fun knowing that you made your own delicious munchies!
Set the mood
If you’re feeling bummed about missing out on the “cinematic experience” by not going to the theater, don’t fret. Take a little time to make your living room into a movie-watching heaven by shutting all of the lights. Arrange your table and couch so your snacks are accessible. Also, shut your phone! You wouldn’t be accessible if you were in a theater, so feel free to tune out for a couple of hours at home too.
One of the advantages of not being in a theater is that you can talk! Take this liberty by having an interactive experience with one of your favorite movies, whether it’s singing a long with a classic musical or using props like a viewing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This kind of movie night is perfect if you're inviting some friends to join you!
Maybe you’re having movie night in the first place to have some well-deserved “me” time. If that’s the case, don’t hesitate to get comfy. There’s no one in the seat in front of you who says you can’t put your feet up, and there’s no one to judge you for snuggling with your favorite pillow. Cozy is still possible even in the heat, especially if the AC is going strong!
