Every woman wants to look beautiful on her wedding day (or on any other day), and there are many ways women can prepare for it. It takes time to remove the damage and grow healthy hair. The constant heat, dying, and washing will dry hair out like a grape in the sunshine. So, here’s a few tips to get some luster back into it before your big day.
Don’t wash your hair every day! It sounds weird, a little gross maybe, but washing your hair daily is one of the worst things you can do to your hair. Shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils and conditioner places chemical ones back in. Washing your hair once every three days or every other day will let those natural oils stay longer and make your hair healthier and smoother.
Don’t over brush your hair! Tangles aren’t any fun, but constantly brushing your hair isn’t any better for it. Pulling and yanking away weakens your hair with every stroke. Brushing wet hair is even worse. Of course hair gets tangled, and you have to brush it, right? Well, not really. There are lots of products out there that will help keep hair tangle free. I personally use Cowboy Magic Detangler. It’s made to detangle horsehair, which is ten times coarser than a humans. I put this in right after I shower and wait to brush my hair in the morning. After all of that, my hair’s super smooth, and I can brush it without any big snags. Then its tangle free for the rest of the day too.
Put oil/baking soda/honey/egg in your hair. I mentioned how bad washing your hair daily is, but, when you do wash it, adding a pinch of oil will help your hair shine. You know those hair commercials where the girls seem to have starlight in their hair? Well, really, its just oil. Mix some oil in with your shampoo and let it sit in your hair for a few minutes. It will smooth out your hair too. I use Pura D’or Pure and Organic Argan Oil but other oils will work too.
If you’re on well water, a teaspoon of baking soda will help strip your hair of the minerals you don’t want in it. It will smooth your hair out and make it healthier.
Leaving both egg and honey (raw honey, like Raw Manuka Honey) will put natural nutrients in your hair to make it look and feel healthier.
Get a trim. Lots of girls want long, luscious hair, but nothing will keep it healthier (or help it grow longer) than a regular trim. Dead hair splits like crazy and become unmanageable frizz. Healthy ends look amazing, and trimming hair is easy too. Here’s a video to help you out.
Stop heating your hair. This is so bad for it! Dying and heating your hair is bad, bad, bad. You can curl your hair without heat pretty easily. I use these tricks, but braiding your hair will work too. Just make sure, if you do that, the braids won’t curl your hair in a really wonky way (this has happened to me before). And don’t brush it if you do non-heat curls. Finger brush only, which, once again, Cowboy Magic Detangler will help you with. If you must heat your hair, use a heat protection, like Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray
As for dying your hair, the best thing you can do is restore your hair as best you can. Don’t dye it often, but, when you do, using something like Infusium 23 Repair & Renew to put some life back into it.
Some of these will help pretty quickly if your big day’s coming up. Even if it isn’t, taking care of your hair is always a plus.
