If you’re not feeling your usual optimistic self right now, you’re not alone. There are plenty of reasons why lots of us feel a bit down. For a start, it’s January. The pleasures of the festive periods are over, the lights have gone out, and we’re missing our families already. Worse still, we’re looking in the mirror and seeing one or two mince pies still loitering on the hips!

Work seems that more tedious for some of us too. It’s even quite difficult to get back into the swing of work after we’ve been off for a week or two as well. We’re turning up in the dark and heading home in the dark. The lack of daylight can cause mood swings and even problems with sleeping. A short walk at lunch time can help, but it’s not much fun if it’s cold and raining.

If you’re looking for a way to shake off the January blues then we could have a few ideas to bring you back to your old self:

Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself

December was the month for eating and drinking and taking a break from the gym. So naturally, a lot of us chose to diet or increase our exercise classes for a New Year resolution. If you’ve already broken those resolution promises to yourself, don’t worry about it. Very few people stick to resolutions that involve big changes in our lifestyles.

To get back on track tick off the positive things you did today. You don’t have to do it all in one go. A couple of steps in the right direction is just enough. Let the little slips go because you can always try again tomorrow.

Leave Some Lights Up

One of the best things about the Christmas period is all the lights. OK, they may be a pain to put up and take down again, but the effect they have on our mood is a positive one. Light therapy can have many positive benefits, but you can create your own version of a light sensory room at home. Why not use some of the fairy lights you had up for Christmas? They can enhance your interior decor as well!

Book A Holiday

January is a really busy month for travel agents. This means there are plenty of bargains to be had if you’re shopping for a holiday. The best thing about booking a holiday is that it gives you something positive to look forward to. And it gives you an excuse to go shopping!

Try A S.A.D. Lamp

Even if you don’t suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, you can still benefit from the light of an S.A.D. lamp. Some can be programmed to get brighter gradually as your morning alarm time approaches. They’re designed to be a bit more like the natural light from the sun. They can be quite handy to use one if you’re struggling with dark mornings.

Pick-Me-Ups

If you’re finding it tough to focus at work and concentrate on your tasks, you might benefit from a supplement or natural remedy to perk you up a bit. You can find a Native remedies focus formula review online to see if it might be right for you. Supplements can give you the edge you need to get back on track.

More Sleep

If you’re feeling generally lethargic, chances are you’re not getting enough sleep. A lack of quality sleep can interfere with your positive mood, causing a lack of enthusiasm for things you once found pleasurable. Try to get into a strict bedtime routine that sees you fast asleep at least seven hours before your alarm goes off. Switch off all your gadgets and read a paper book instead.

Makeover

When you’re not feeling attractive, you can lose your confidence and general positivity. Why not treat yourself to a spa weekend? A new hairstyle can be just the thing to help perk you up too. Even a new outfit can help you feel more confident.

Spend Time With Your Admirers

For a healthy ego boost to bring back your positivity, spend time with the people that love you the most. Friends and family can offer you the best kind of support and comfort when you’re not feeling so good about yourself. Sometimes a two-hour chinwag is just the thing to perk you up and get you back to your old self.

A positive outlook isn’t the easiest thing to maintain sometimes. And January can be the toughest month for your confidence and your mood. Take care of yourself, and look forward to a brighter February!
