4 Finance Podcasts You Need to Listen to in 2024
Remember that promise you made to yourself to stop watching so much TV and try to read more, or at least throw in a documentary here and there? Well, podcasts can help fill the void when your brain needs some sustenance. If you’re looking to beef up your money prowess or planning to finally quit your awful desk job and take a chance as an entrepreneur, then these finance podcasts are exactly what you should be listening to this year.
Planet Money
Imagine you could call up a friend and say, “Meet me at the bar and tell me what’s going on with the economy.” Now imagine that’s actually a fun evening. That’s what we’re going for at Planet Money.
It’s hard to beat this powerhouse podcast from NPR. It’s an O.G. in the world of podcasting and launched in 2008, around the time the economy was going sideways. Episodes tend to be 20 minutes or less and use storytelling to blow your mind about an economic topic you may have never pondered (like why can’t we bet on elections?) or figured you’d never understand (what exactly is the Dow Jones and should I even care?).
This podcast focuses more on economics and not how to necessarily better your relationship with a budget, but hey, you can swing 15 to 20 minutes of your day to get a better grasp on how the global economy works. You might be pleasantly surprised how beneficial it will be for your own balance sheet to understand how the Fed operates.

StartUp
StartUp is a podcast series about what it’s really like to get a business off the ground.
A simple premise for a captivating and entertaining podcast. StartUp was the first show launched by Gimlet Media (founded by Alex Blumberg, formerly of Planet Money and This American Life). Season one follows the journey of actually launching a StartUp, in this case Gimlet Media, from the first pitch meeting to hiring a business partner to hiring employees. Considering just how many millennials are keen on becoming entrepreneurs, StartUp will show you the good, bad and the ugly behind being your own boss.
The show has two full seasons and one mini-season. Season one and the mini-season follows Gimlet Media, while season two follows the startup Dating Ring. It will be returning for season three in Spring 2016.

M.O.N.E.Y.
The M.O.N.E.Y. podcast covers all things financial and entrepreneurial, and is a series of interviews with each other as well as other brilliant (and fun!) people doing amazing things out there.
This is one of the finance podcasts that are newer to the scene, and comes from the creative minds of personal finance bloggers Paula Pant of AffordAnything.com and J. Money of BudgetsAreSexy.com. Each episode is all about personal finance but the topics can range from how to build a real estate empire to habits of the rich to how having kids affects your hustle.
Paula and J. Money not only have some different wealth-building strategies (real estate verse just investing) but also opposite life experiences because Paula lives with her long-term partner but has no kids while J. Money is married with two sons. Their give-and-take and diverse backgrounds make this finance podcast a must listen for millennials. Plus, I personally love the breath of fresh air to have an unmarried woman with no kids providing her perspective on financial matters.

The Tim Ferriss Show
Each episode, I deconstruct world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics and tools you can use.
You may recognize the name Tim Ferriss from his best-selling book The Four Hour Work Week (or his other book The Four Hour Body, or his other book The Four Hour Chef). Ferriss provides his avid followers access to the minds of top-performers in a variety of fields with lengthy, but enthralling, interviews. Most of his interviews last at least an hour and a half and some go for two or more.
This may sound like an odd pick for a round up of podcasts for money nerds, as Ferriss isn’t often interviewing economists or bankers, but he does interview businessmen and women, top entrepreneurs and creative thinkers.
