My name is Ashley Roth and I have been selected to be December’s cover girl. I am super flattered and excited! My world revolves around my family and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without their love and support. So needless to say, I was thrilled when asked to be on the cover of the family edition of the magazine!
I am a stay at home mama to one-year-old twins and blogging is my way to deal with my (mis)adventures in parenting. Millennial Mother launched January 1st of this year and has evolved so much in that short time period. I initially wanted to start a blog all about my family, but I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in my day-to-day life. I decided on the idea of a collective blog made up of a group of eclectic moms writing about parenting instead. After six months and constantly begging the writers to submit posts, I gave up on the idea. But after a hiatus and a confidence boost, Millennial Mother returned as my very own blog. It was great because this is what I wanted all along. At this point I don’t care if anyone reads. Blogging combines my two favorite hobbies, writing and photography, and is a therapeutic outlet for me to express myself in ways I normally would not.
I am the antithesis of a helicopter mom, so my perspectives on family/parenthood are super laid back. “Go with the flow” is my personal motto. Structures and routines are integral, but spontaneity is just as important for a healthy and happy home. I really give my kids full reign to be themselves and explore the world around them. I monitor their play and try to hone in on what truly interests them to create an enriching environment for them.
This month at Miss Millennia magazine, I plan to write about family issues surrounding the holiday season. Family traditions, coping with long distance, and helping less fortunate families during the holidays are all topics I want to touch on. In sharing, I hope no matter what type or size of family you have you will be inspired a little bit more during this special month.
