From childhood, we’ve been told not to eat sweet foods, but it’s a struggle, especially for those of us who have a sweet tooth. There are numbers of reasons as to why sugar is a big problem for your dental health, but also for other parts of your body!

Too much sugar can cause bad skin, can cause you to put on weight, and too much sugar can even cause your liver to end up being immune to insulin which can lastly lead to type 2 diabetes. If you need a bit of help to stay off the white stuff, here are five good reasons to cut down on sugar.

1. You’ll get away from extra dental treatments

It’s no surprise that sugar leads to tooth decay; it sticks to the teeth which bacteria feed off, and the result is a build-up of plaque which can ultimately erode the tooth enamel. This can lead to everything from sensitiveness and bad breath to cavities.

This may turn so extensive that you will need cares such as fillings, root canal therapy or even extraction. While dental cares have come a long way, with cosmetic dental treatment ready and cheap dental implants in London, offers a more natural option to dentures, they’re always best avoided in favor of a good diet. Cutting down on sugar will not only cause your teeth to become healthier, it’ll mean that you can cut down on the cost of taking dental cares. Helping you to cut costs of treatment and feel better about your smile!

2. You’ll feel more confident

If your teeth are subjected to excess sugar over the years and are showing the signs of decay, you’ll probably feel a knock to your confidence. Up to a quarter of British people admitted they were unhappy with their teeth, and three-quarters said their confidence would improve if they had a better smile.

Cutting down on sugar helps preserve your teeth, but it can also have a positive effect on your self-esteem. You feel fitter, happier and healthier for reducing your intake. Generally, sugar can lead to you feeling lethargic, despite an initial sugar rush. The comedown can have an impact on how your body feels. If you take fewer amounts of sugar, your body is likely to feel better meaning you’re going to be more confident in your own skin.

3. Your clothes will fit better

It’s suggested that adults eat no more than 30g of added sugars a day; that’s the equivalent of seven and a half teaspoons. But with added sugars in more and more foods, it’s difficult to tell when we’re eating too much. Checking labels regularly and making healthier low-sugar swaps will mean you’ll cut down on your calorie intake. Just because the product maybe low in fat doesn’t mean that it is low in sugar, and as excess sugar can actually help to store fat. You will find that you will end up putting on weight simply by consuming sweet treats on a regular basis. Depending on the level of your addiction, you’ll likely lose some weight from around your waist by making healthier choices.

4. Cutting down your health risks

High sugar intake isn’t just bad to your teeth, it’s also linked to a range of other diseases. Obesity is a growing part and was traced to high levels of  sugar in our diets, causing increased reaction to insulin and leptin. Type II diabetes is another disease caused by excess sugar intake and can have     long effects.

What’s more, a sugary diet can raise levels of bad cholesterol in the body. It’s a leading cause of heart disease, and has also been linked to fatty deposits in the liver. Too much sugar in your diet can finally result in metabolic dysfunction, and this can cause a huge count of issues including weight gain, an increase in blood sugar and high blood pressure.

This can all be severe if you keep taking great amounts of sugar on a regular basis, meaning there are a great number of ways that your body can be at risk of a series of health issues. Cutting down on sugar will finally ensure that your body is left much healthier.
