Underwear is expensive.
For that reason, and because your undergarments help make your outer garments look great, it's good to know how to properly launder your unmentionables. When washed properly, bras and delicates can stay in great shape for longer. Here I have listed some important tips on how to wash your delicates.
Before You Wash
You should always connect bra hooks before washing. This will prevent hooks from snagging in a washer or any of your other clothing. A mesh lingerie bag helps prevent snagging and makes it easier to take out all your undergarments at once. This way, you don't have to tug and search through all of the other clothing.
On to the Wash
Wash with other garments to prevent tangling, since there is nothing worse than stretching out the elastic in your bras. Plus, even in a lingerie bag, no one wants to wash an entire load of just underwear. It is important to wash with similar weights, such as shirts. This is important because you don't want your delicates to be damaged by heavy fabrics such as denim and towels.
Using the delicate cycle helps because it does not agitate the underwear. Regular cycles can be too strong for delicates and cause damage. Use cold or warm water, which causes the least damage to color and materials.
Remove bras before the spin cycle. Since a bra doesn't have much weight, it really does not need to be spin dried. This will also prevent padding from re-conforming into a weird shape. Reshape your bras if they are padded. Last but not least, lay your bras out to air dry. You don't have to worry about heat damage, shrinkage, or pilling when you air dry. And even better, it doesn't take very long to do so.
