As the new year approaches, a lot of us will make resolutions to get in better shape. The gym can be an intimidating place, especially for those of us that are just starting out. No one wants to be the person that feels lost in a gym full of people that workout like professionals. Even the most confident person would become discouraged. Home workout programs were created as a way for people to become healthy and reach their fitness goals without stepping foot inside a gym.

These programs are perfect for busy career women as well as for those of us that just prefer not to work out in the gym. Women that travel often may also prefer this option because they won’t have access to their gym during their travels. There are many programs to choose from and many of them include nutrition guides as well. The nutrition programs are often easy to follow and go along with the workout calendar to help customers reach their goals.

There are many different types of home workout programs. They include streaming subscriptions such as Daily Burn and Beachbody On Demand. Subscriptions offer a wide selection of workouts that you can choose from on one platform. You can also purchase individual programs like P90X and Insanity on DVD. There are also free options available online. You may need small equipment such as hand weights and resistance bands to use a few of these programs. Be sure to take this into consideration when choosing a workout program.

Pricing

Beachbody On Demand currently charges around $40 quarterly for its subscription service. It includes streaming of all their popular programs as well as meal plans to follow with each program. They also have an iPhone and iPad app.  Daily Burn offers the same type of streaming subscription for around $15 per month. DVD programs are priced around $20 to $100 with no recurring fees.

Prices for a gym membership vary a lot. The cheapest one that I found was Planet Fitness for $10 per month. Of course, if you want the V.I.P. package that includes access to any Planet Fitness and the hydro massage beds it would cost $20 per month. Other gyms that I saw in my area were between $20 and $50 per month. The higher-end memberships included access to massage rooms, tanning beds, and fitness classes. The lower end memberships only included access to the gym during business hours.

Hours

Working out using home workout programs offers a level of convenience that you cannot get from a gym. There are no time constraints or travel time involved. If you feel like working out at 4:00 in the morning, you can do that with home workout programs. You also get to skip the morning or afternoon commute.

Unless you are a member of a 24-hour gym, working out at the gym requires you to exercise during business hours. Gym memberships also require travel from home or work to the gym. I am currently a member of a gym that closes at 5:00 pm on Fridays during the summer and the holidays. This frustrates me because sometimes I would like to get in a workout after work on Fridays, but I am not able to.

Workouts

Home workout programs offer a variety of ways to work out. I have seen everything, from walking workouts to country line dance workouts. This is a great opportunity to try new forms of exercise without being embarrassed or intimated. It is also a great way to try things that you normally would not attempt. If you don’t like a workout you can just move on to something else without feeling defeated in front of others.

The type of workout program that we choose to do is personal. Some people like boot camp style workouts while others like Zumba workouts. Whatever your style may be, a gym has to be chosen based on whether they offer the things that are important to you. This can prove to be a challenge depending on location and pricing.

Weight Loss Results

Results from working out depend entirely on the person. Diet and exercise are specific, so you should determine (with the help of a doctor) what your body needs. Gyms and home workout programs both provide claims of weight loss, but results vary based on the individual. All programs encourage you to consult your physician and follow safety rules before beginning. A lot of people will not have success stories like the “before and after” pictures you see on TV no matter what they do.

Are Home Workout Programs Legit of Lame?

Working out at home gives you the ability to work out when and where you choose. The prices are reasonable and there are plenty of free options available online. You can find an at home workout for almost anything thing that you find interesting. This is a great way to experiment and see what you like, as well as try new things.

I currently have a gym membership and I have tried a few home workout programs as well. My gym membership is around $20 per month and it includes access to the swimming pools and the fitness classes as well as all equipment. My most recent home workout program is a DVD program called Cize. I purchased the program from Amazon and I love it. The set came with six different workouts, a workout calendar, and a nutrition plan. I would like to go to the gym a few times a week, but sometimes life happens. In those instances, I have the option to workout at home on my own terms.

I find workout programs to be as legitimate as working out at a gym. Depending on the pricing and location, working out at home may make more sense than gym membership for some people. Other people, like me, prefer a combination of the two. I believe that you get out what you put in. If you have the motivation to work out, then it does not matter where you choose to work out. You will meet your goals. Working out takes hard work and determination. If you are committed to reaching your goals, home workout programs can be a legitimate tool to help with your new year’s resolutions.
