When you are in a job, it’s easy to start thinking about college. After all, it was the greatest time of your life, so you are bound to have lasting memories, right? And if you are not in the most rewarding job at the moment, it can make you wish you had studied something else at college. But it’s not too late to go back to college. In fact, you can make it work around your job if you have rent and bills to pay out for. Here are some ways you can make college and work both fit into your life.
Talk to your boss about flexible hours
First things first, you should speak to your boss about your plans to go back to college. Explain that you want to continue with your role while you are studying and that you want to ensure the two work well together. Hopefully, your boss will look into ways to keep you on while you get your degree. After all, at the end of your course, you might have skills which you can use to take on a higher role at your current company. Businesses are always looking for ways to train their staff without spending a fortune. Hopefully, you can come to some sort of arrangement where you work more flexible hours.
For example, if you have to go to classes in the morning, you could start work later in the day and then finish in the evening. Or you might even be able to swap your shifts for others if there are full days you need to study. Hopefully, your boss will realize you are an asset to the team and will attempt to make it work.
Look at online options for courses
When it comes to studying, you don’t always need to go to an actual college building to take part in the course. In fact, you will find a lot of courses you can do online. For example, you might want to do an online accounting MBA, which can be completed in less than two years. And the program will allow you to work anywhere at times that fit your schedule. So you can log on after work to complete any necessary coursework. Without the added stress of commuting, it won’t interfere with your current job as much. Therefore, you can still carry on earning while bettering yourself at the same time.
Go for a part time course instead
A lot of students opt to go to college on a full-time basis. After all, it helps them to complete the course at a quicker rate. But if you are happy to go on for longer, you might want to go for a part time course. It might stretch the course over four years rather than three. But it means you only have to attend college for half the time you would for a typical course. Therefore, it won’t affect your work while you are studying. And you can keep your boss happy while attending lectures at the same time!
And remember: there are other options for earning some money while studying if you don’t want to continue with your full-time job. Here are some additional ways you can make some money if you can’t work 30 hours a week and keep up with class. While it might be stressful, in the end you will be glad that you stuck it out and went back to school.
