If you’re trying to come up with the perfect career, and you enjoy beauty related things, you may have considered beauty therapy. But how do you know if beauty therapy is the career for you? Read on to find out…
You’re Willing to Train for Years
Some people think that training to work in beauty therapy is easy, but they’re wrong. You need to work hard for 2-3 years to get your certification. You’ll be required to do writing work as well as practical work before you’re signed off to do beauty treatments in a salon environment. You need to be committed enough to stick to the training!
You Have an Interest in Many Different Topics
If you’re interested in nothing but nails, you might be better off doing a course solely on nails. However, if you have an interest in many different topics, a diploma in beauty therapy could be for you. You’ll cover a range of different topics, including things like massage, facials, and electrotherapy treatments. Your job won’t just be to make people look good physically, but to feel good too. Some people think that beauty therapy is just painting nails, but it’s much more in depth than that. While training, you’ll be required to learn all about the muscles and bones of the human body, even the anatomy of the hair follicle and nails! It’s also your job to give your client good health advice, whether it’s on how much water to drink or how much sleep to get. You’ll more than likely be an ear for them to chew too, so you’ll probably be a bit of a life coach!
You Have Communication Skills
As a therapist, you’ll need to communicate with your clients clearly. You’ll need to make it clear to them what’s going to happen in the treatment, what you can and can’t do for them, and more. You’ll need to be able to answer their questions and put their minds at rest!
You Love Helping People
Beauty therapy is all about helping people to look and feel their best. If you love helping people, you’ll more than likely love this job!
You’re a Good Listener
Your clients will more than likely come to you with stories, and perhaps even want a little advice from an impartial perspective. That’s why it’s essential you’re a good listener. You’ll also need to listen to them properly when they tell you what they want, so you can explain whether it can or can’t be done.
You Have an Eye for Detail
Being a good therapist is all about having an eye for detail. You want to go the extra mile for your clients. A good therapist is always a perfectionist, making sure their work is of the highest standard. It should also help if you’re creative, so you can impress your clients with nail designs, makeup ideas, etc.
You Enjoy Working in a Hands on Environment
Working in a hands on environment can be much more rewarding than working on a computer all day long, for instance. If you like to do physical work where you’re moving around, this type of job is perfect.
You Cope Well Under Pressure
The beauty industry is very fast paced, and you’re expected to get things done in a certain time period. You need to be able to cope well under pressure if you want to be a good beauty therapist!
If this post sounds good to you, then beauty therapy might be your dream career. If you know you’ll enjoy massaging, facials, painting nails and doing a variety of other treatments, you’ll love your job!
