In college, looking fashionable is the last thing on our minds.
Welcome to the real world, where getting out of bed and going straight to class is not even an option. Now that you have graduated, there are a few things that you must do to get and keep your first job. I’m here to help you with one of the most important parts of the job: Your wardrobe. The way you dress can tell a lot about yourself, especially to a future employer during a job interview. Therefore, looking clean and crisp is always a plus.
The Skinny Trouser
The skinny trouser is a new modern touch to fashion, and it’s an easy day-to-night look. This look can be done with a black skinny trouser with a basic knit flared sleeveless shirt, topped with a contrasting blazer. Keep the jewelry simple so it will not upstage the blazer. If you wear a basic blazer (all black or navy), pair it with more accessories.
Simple and classic is the key when wearing a pencil skirt. Pair with a simple top, or one with intricate detailing such as pleats or a small bow around the neck. A sleek but subtle bolero will finish the look off for a clean piece. A cheetah print shoe brings a pop of edge into the look, but followed with a simple black watch and ivory rose stud earrings, and a black leather tote. This timeless piece will never go out of style.
This year, fashion has resurrected 1960s fashion using color blocking. This contemporary dress is perfect for the workplace because of its sophistication. Complement the dress with an interesting necklace along with simple rhinestone earrings and a silver bow ring. A wedged platform shoe and a black satchel completes the outfit.
When preparing for an interview or going to work, always think about your statement piece. If the shirt has many ruffles on it, don’t wear a necklace or big earrings – simplicity is always the key. There are many stores that sell items like those posted above. H&M, Forever 21, Lerner’s New York, and The Limited are just a few that offer reasonable, stylish business wear.
