Often, in the case of common problems, natural remedies can be just as effective as prescription treatments. So before you stress about getting a doctor’s appointment, give natural remedies a try.

To give you an idea of some amazing DIY remedies, we have put together a guide to five health problems that can be treated naturally.

  1. Acne breakouts

Often, when our skin gets really bad, our first port of call is the doctor’s office. While hormonal treatments can be incredibly effective for clearing up acne, they aren’t good for our bodies. This is especially true if you are on acne tablets for a long period, as they can cause all sorts of health problems.

If you are prone to acne and are suffering from some severe breakouts, before seeing the doctor, go down the natural route. There are lots of natural acne treatments, but Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the best. Thanks to the PH level of this substance, it can work amazingly well to kill bacteria and re-balance the skin.

Another great treatment for acne is drinking pure aloe vera gel. Often, skin problems, like breakouts, are caused by skin that’s prone to bacteria. By drinking pure aloe vera gel, you can clear your skin from the inside out, making it healthier and less prone to acne.

  1. Cold sores

Across the globe, two-thirds of people suffer from cold sores, many of whom struggle to treat them. While doctors can offer anti-viral medication, it’s better to treat yourself naturally. Otherwise, you will need to rely on medication for life.

While there are plenty of chemical treatments for cold sores, natural propolis creme can be just as effective. Believe it or not, applying a small amount of bee propolis to the affected area twice a day, can shrink the sore. As well as reducing the size of the blister, propolis can also speed up the healing process.

  1. Warts

At least 75 percent of people will develop a wart during their lifetime – they are a very common health condition. A wart is a benign growth that can appear anywhere on the body. However, they are most commonly found on the hands and feet. While there are plenty of fantastic treatments for warts, like Wartrol, you can also treat them naturally.

How you choose to treat a wart is up to you, but one of the most popular home treatments is duct tape. All you have to do is place a small amount of duct tape over the wart and then leave it for a few days. After five or six days, remove the duct tape, soak the wart in warm water, and then repeat the process. While it can take a few weeks of doing this, duct tape is an effective wart treatment.

Another effective home remedy for warts is tea tree oil, all you need to do is apply it to the affected area twice a day. This is a fantastic method for getting rid of warts, as it only takes a few days to take effect. After five or six days of tea tree application, the wart should turn white and eventually, fall off.

  1. Urinary tract infections

If you have ever experienced one of these painful infections, you will know just how uncomfortable they can be. When you’re in a lot of pain, the last thing you want to do is wait a couple of days for a doctor’s appointment. That’s why, when it comes to UTIs, taking the natural approach can be a fantastic idea.

For people who are prone to repeat infections, vitamin C is an excellent treatment. To prevent severe infections, 1000 mg vitamin C tablets should be taken each day to help keep bacteria growth, and infections, at bay.

You have probably heard that cranberry juice can help to treat urinary tract infections. While this is partly true, to be able to treat a UTI using cranberry juice, you would need to opt for a brand that contains a high amount of cranberry. (Most contain just 15 -30% cranberry juice, so are no good for treating UTIs.) A fantastic way to get all the benefits from cranberries is by taking a cranberry capsule each day.

  1. Insomnia

Anyone who has ever suffered from insomnia will know just how stressful it can be not being able to sleep. While you can get sleeping tablets from your doctor, this can include a trip to a sleep clinic, and time to make a diagnosis. That’s why, if you want to improve the amount of sleep you are getting, often a natural approach is best.

A fantastic natural treatment for insomnia is chamomile tea. Drinking a cup of this tea before getting into bed can help to calm and soothe your mind. To ensure drifting off to sleep is easy, drink your chamomile tea at least 30 minutes before bed. You can pick up chamomile tea from most supermarkets and health stores.

When it comes to treating insomnia, passion flower can be incredibly effective. Both the fresh and dried leave of this plant can act as a natural tranquilizer; that can calm and soothe the mind. The effect of the flower can help to reduce anxiety and stress, making it easier to drift off to sleep.

When it comes to dealing with common ailments, often natural treatments are a great option. While you should always get anything that you are worried about by a doctor, minor conditions can be safely treated at home.
