Your gut is one of the most sensitive and important systems in your body. So you need to take extra care of it to see to it that it remains healthy and happy.
Everybody’s gut will behave differently. It’s important to become in tune with your system so that you know what to do and what not to do. However, these general tips can apply to everyone to help you understand and be kind to your gut.
Be aware of unusual symptoms
A lot of people suffer from digestive problems. Examples include food intolerances and conditions such as Crohn’s disease. Your gut and your nervous system are closely connected. So, when your mind is stressed, this can cause your digestive system to become upset. That’s why you may suffer from stomach cramps, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea and sickness when you are nervous. Dealing with stress will improve your gut health as well as your overall physical and mental well-being.
Your taste buds like fatty, sugary and processed foods, but your gut certainly doesn’t. Your digestive system will be at it’s healthiest and happiest if you give it fresh and natural ingredients. Eating lean meat and fish, whole grains, probiotic yogurt and plenty of fruit and veg will keep your digestive system running smoothly.
Physical activity is great for your overall health, and especially your gut’s health. Many studies have shown that exercise leads to better gut bacteria diversity. In case you are wondering, diverse bacteria is a good thing! It has been associated with lower obesity and diabetes rates. Physical exercise also improves our mood. Because of the close relationship between the nervous and digestive systems; the happier our mind is, the happier our gut is.
