Sharing is caring!

As we fast approach the end of the year, it’s the perfect opportunity to reevaluate your life. You might be wondering what the next year has in store for you. Perhaps you will set a few new year’s resolutions to be getting on with. Many people set themselves goals that include losing weight, paying off debts, or saving for things like houses or weddings.

However, one of the most common resolutions people consider is their career. They see it as a chance to change, perhaps go for a promotion or study for a new employment. With that in mind, I thought it would be an appropriate time to discuss some of the actions you should take if your job is high on your priority list for 2017.

Decide what you want from your career.

Sometimes the only decision you need to make is what you want from your career or job prospects for the future. For example, are you happy in your current environment? Do you feel valued or have some job satisfaction at the end of the day?

It can be difficult to ask these questions, especially if you are confused about things. But knowing what you want will help you decipher your actions and goals in the future. So spend some time thinking about what you want to do, and visualize what will be right for you as an individual.

Set yourself some realistic goals.

Once you know exactly what you want from your work life, you need to consider the goals and steps you need to take to achieve what you want. The important thing is to set realistic goals. The last thing you want to do is place unnecessary pressure on yourself to achieve what you want.

On the contrary, realistic goals make your time from setting the goals to achievement much quicker, which will aid you in keeping motivated with your end goals.

Consider making improvements to your skillset.

Sometimes improving your current skill set is necessary, which might mean taking courses or learning through books and research online. For example, you might want to become a master of IT so that you are more diverse in the digital world. Or be more clued up in psychological factors to help with workload or become a team manager. All knowledge is good, and many skills learned can be adapted to different job sectors.

Keep positive with your mindset.

The last thing you want when you are looking to make changes to your lifestyle is to have a negative mindset. Negative thoughts can impact your productivity and motivation levels. So it’s vital to keep an excellent positive attitude if you are serious about making changes. This can have more of an impact on your life than just how you think and feel.

Be innovative with your actions with your current employer

Finally, ensure that you keep things going well within your current employment. If that means showing initiative and being creative, so be it. This will help you for promotion or help you move on in your career.

I hope these tips help you take the right actions for a career change. Allow 2017 to be a year to do what you want, finally!
