Top Three Sites To Buy Textbooks

By  |

a pile of books with an apple and pencilsI have a few personal purchasing rules that I adhere to very strictly. Usually it’s an issue of cost and value and there are four things that I NEVER buy full price: cars, furniture, shoes, and textbooks.

My college textbook strategy was to buy used textbooks online, and then sell them back at the end of the semester. That way you save money on the purchase, and then if you sell it back, the cost of the book turns out to be even less in the long run! Here are my top three favorite websites for buying and selling textbooks:

1. www.bigwords.com

Bigwords.com is a website that compares various textbook dealers and shows you the cheapest buys. It saves you time from browsing around for the best price! Search by ISBN to buy, rent, or sell textbooks, get a price comparison, and easily purchase the cheapest copy.

2. www.abebooks.com

This website offers books of every kind, but it’s a great place to find used textbooks. I used this site often to sell textbooks. It’s super easy to send them in and then you get a check in the mail! Cha-ching!

3. www.betterworld.com

I love this website! For every book you buy, BetterWorld donates a book to someone in need. This company raises funds for literacy programs and libraries around the world. You have the option of buying, selling, and even donating your textbooks, and BetterWorld re-uses or recycles them. It’s an incredible initiative to support!

When you’re in college, you need to be thrifty. Always buy used textbooks. First of all, you know you’re not going to read the entire thing. Sometimes instructors only use parts of textbooks. Secondly, new or used it’s the same book! I used to like getting the brand new books, completely untouched, ready for study. BUT I realized that your book lives in your backpack or car and gets shabby anyway. Plus sometimes, a previous owners highlighted sections or margin notes are helpful! Thirdly, don’t let textbook publishers gouge your wallet! Be a smart shopper when you have required textbooks.
