8 Tips on College Stress Management

There are a lot of factors behind stress in college, from time management to limited finances, coping with class mates with differing personalities to enduring the unbecoming behaviors of professors. Anxiety can negatively impact a college student’s psychological and physical health. It’s not unusual to hear reports of college students suffering from mental and emotional breakdowns and even committing suicide as a result of the serious stress they go through while attending college. Fortunately, college stress could be managed effectively. Listed below are our 8 tips on college stress management.

  • Organize your day-to-day routines and activities. College stress is usually the result of cramming. If you have a specific daily plan, cramming could be reduced. Maintain a calendar and emphasize key events such as due dates, and important test dates. Come up with a plan of action prior to these crucial events so that you can prevent cramming in a last minute review.
  • Avoid unrealistic goals. You need to be prepared to encounter a number of failures from time to time. That’s normal. You cannot be your best self at all times. Setting an incredibly high standard for yourself can put you in frustrating circumstances. Take school life more easily. Try to be yourself, and do not put excessive stress on yourself by anticipating performance or grades beyond your ability. Give one hundred percent of your effort in what you do, and accept whatever the result might be.
  • Allot time for some workout or leisure time.  Treat yourself after having an exam or paper due. You could unwind by going to a movie theater. Take a stroll around the campus or a recreational area close to school rather than travelling during heavy traffic. These simple activities will help relieve your stress. You may also try working out in a gym, or get involved in yoga classes during your free time. You may work out early each morning or perform yoga before bedtime.
  • Have a healthy diet.  Avoid overeating processed foods and eating out at fast food restaurants. These foods have higher levels of stress-creating substances and ingredients. Based on your allowance, make sure to have a few fresh fruits and veggies in your dormitory. Eating healthy food cleans your system from harmful toxins that induce stress. Preparing your own food is usually a great way to invigorate your mind and body. Also, it may cut your budget, helping you save some of that allowance.
  • Get plenty of rest. Do not stay up late at night. Partying all night eats out the most essential aspects of a healthy way of life. It is crucial for you to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night so that your mind can function efficiently. If you can’t avoid an activity that leads into late night hours, make sure to have sufficient rest once you are back to your house. Staying up late and getting out of bed early the next day isn’t doing you or your education any good.
  • Get connected to your loved ones. Keep in mind, your anchor can be found in your own home. Always allot some time to talk with your parents or siblings if you have any. Utilize the internet. You may send them e-mails or private messages on Facebook.  Give them a call or use Skype to converse with them. Be open about what you are feeling while attending college and experiencing everything else. If you are aware that your parents and relatives are constantly at the opposite end, it helps you remain dedicated to achieving your dreams.
  • Participate in college activities.  Being active in extracurricular activities can be an excellent remedy for college stress. You may take part in a group workout or maybe a dance class; get involved in social activities like a fundraiser, a fun run or a humanitarian event at school. It is possible to build friendships that lead into lifelong friendships with your classmates or with others on campus.
