I made a table top out of old pallet wood accidentally had a couple nails and chipped blade, which started out really sharp, and so started gouging the wood. I thought girls probably like that kind of stuff, so I let it go ahead and gouge and turn out my wife love to look! Anyway unit has worked fine. I bought a chisel sharpening helper, that holds the chisel in a certain position and some diamond sharpening stones and the blade is back to normal and sharper than ever. This was a great purchase

We had a very old small planer that was hard to use. This new one is sturdy and works so well. It is a convenient size and is comfortable to hold with the grip ball and handle. Have used it a lot already on our DIY project of finishing out the inside of our barndominium. It is comfortable to use and works well shaving studs level, whether taking off a little bit or even up to 1/2" in one spot. The adjustment wheels are a little sloppy loose and it was a bit difficult to get the blade adjusted at first but once set up it works great!

UPDATE: Though I am still very pleased with this planer, I wanted to update my review to let you know that currently the replacement blade for this item is not available on Amazon, which is very surprising to me for an Amazon Basics product (https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-1-12-134-Replacement-Cutter-12-404/dp/B07MFBVZJ6).

Firstly, the instructions tell you to make sure the sole is flat, I'm thinking "how bad could it be"? Well, the sole was not even close to being flat. It took me over 3 hours to get it flattened and useable. The shoe is also a casting and not smooth, in fact it was bumpy and oddly shaped. The mouth is misshapen and rough and not rectangle in shape. When blade is adjusted properly you will have a bigger opening on one side than the other.
If you want to use it with a shooting board, forget about it, the sides are not even close to being 90 deg. In fact, from one side over the sole, it is almost 1/8" out of square.
The blade had deep tooling marks on the beveled edge and was very rough on the back. Not sure about the hardness of the blade just yet because I haven't been able to use it yet other than testing.
The adjusting mechanism is a joke, it can be adjusted to get the cut you need, but it is a real PITA to do. You have to loosen the shoe thumb screw and move the adjusting thumb wheels to where you think they need to be and then when you tighten the thumb screw the blade moves. So it takes several attempts to get it right.
Overall, it will work OK with a good bit of work, but it's not a plane that I would want to use every day.

Professionally, I’m in engineer. At home I do a lot of renovations. My professional life set me up for a lot of disappointment as I work on things and realize they are not straight or square.

This little guy has become my favorite new tool for taking the kinks out of studs are, and I’ve even used it to plane off paint or spackling to make a smooth transition between different wall materials. I know it’s not right I know it’s obsessive, but it makes me feel good.

It’s easy to adjust. It works well and it was an expensive. There are probably fancier versions of this out there, but this checked all the boxes for me.
