Sharing is caring!

I believe any ambitious and successful person would tell you that to accomplish your dreams and goals, you need all that you’ve been told and then some. And then there’s an intelligent and wary handful who say you need passion. I say you’ll need that more than anything else.

What’s a life dream if there’s no passion in it? You could be a manager of a fast food restaurant if that’s your wish, but even that requires passion. Passion doesn’t just mean an obsessive love for something. It runs much deeper than that. Passion involves a deep understanding of what you’re pursuing, a desire to share the dream with others and educate them on it for the love of knowledge, and a soul-moving joy that transcends circumstantial happiness. Without this powerful force, you may accomplish what you want to accomplish, but not to your greatest ability.

According to the Urban Dictionary, passion is:

“When you put more energy into something than is required to do it. It is more than just enthusiasm or excitement, passion is ambition that is materialized into action to put as much heart, mind, body and soul into something as is possible.”

Passion can be defined differently by every individual. The agency company Barkley in Kansas City revealed research showing that Millennials have a significantly greater range of activities they are passionate about than those over 35. The majority believes that “Being true to Yourself” is one of the greatest influential qualities. “Their overall goal is to express themselves in a way that is true to who they really are.”

Generally, Millennials’ passion lies in self-expression. Since we are the generation changing the world, passion is indispensable. How does “being true to yourself” come through each day, including in the mundane routine? Millennials define success in personal terms. In whatever you do, locate an area in which you succeed while being yourself. Perhaps you do have a job you hate, but are you bad at it? And this passion doesn’t have to be defined through your job. In your hobbies, your relationships, your home life, your likes and dislikes, passion can shine through. Ambition can materialize into action anywhere.

Passion isn’t just valuable in the sense of achieving what we want. It also helps us overcome the obstacles we dread. The more enthusiasm you have, the more you are intent on improving yourself. Passion makes way for optimism, energy, and spunk which ultimately makes you a more desirable player wherever you work. As Steve Jobs said, “People with passion can change the world for the better.”

How does it sustain you? Well, passion gives you energy, the kind of energy that cannot be gained from caffeine. When we find an effective and enjoyable way to change the world, it gives light to our feet and moves us into further action. If you think you can keep going without passion, you’re mistaken.

If there is no passion, either the dream is the wrong one or you simply need to add it to your arsenal.
